If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. - 1 Peter 4:11

"Wisdom in balance" by guest blogger Maureen Brown

As we prepare for our 14th annual conference "Wisdom" with Keynote speaker Mary Kassian and musical guest Point of Grace, we are featuring blog posts from our recommended speaker team to share their journey on wisdom! This week, Maureen Brown shares with us the value of restoring balance through wisdom...

Have you ever found yourself at the end of the day asking the question “where did that day go?”  Just like the line that Alabama used to sing – “I’m in a hurry to get things done; I rush and rush until life’s no fun.”  Do you sometimes feel like your life is “rushed” or “out of balance”?

Balance and time management –
two thoughts that can bring instant fear and guilt into the heart of every woman.

Wouldn’t it be helpful if you could hire your own personal balance and time-management consultant?  Someone who could see the big picture and look down at your to-do list and put things into proper perspective dictating things like “ok, that item is a waste of time –this, now this is important – focus on this – take more time for that - and this is okay, as long as it doesn’t get in the way of that”.

I remember when my children were little, feeling like that infamous gerbil running on the wheel of life.  Missing moments that I could never get back and not appreciating the incredible moments that God had given me.   During that time I had the blessing of meeting weekly with a group of close friends for bible study.  Oh they were sometimes crazy mornings because we all brought our kids and it would be loud.  But those coffee mornings were the highlight of my week and the friendships and support helped me so much through those years.  I’ll never forget a verse that we studied one time that hit me like a ton of bricks.

Proverbs 14:1 The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

Was I tearing my house down?  Was I using the wisdom God offered me? I had an opportunity as a mother to build into my children’s lives......to be thankful for my circumstances....to realize that there is a bigger plan........to realize that this time goes so quickly. ….did I have an attitude of gratitude….was I thankful for every moment?  Did I realize that though it was one of the hardest jobs I would ever do, it was one of the most important jobs I would ever do?  Did I realize that there was a bigger picture and there was a plan and a purpose for all that my life entailed?
And so that lesson continues on for me until this day.  Maybe there is something in it for you as well? Each of us is part of a bigger picture and we need to realize that there is a plan and purpose for the stage we are going through right now…and we have the wisdom that is needed to consider the bigger picture.  The Bible tells us in James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.  God is eager to give us wisdom…….and the fee is absolutely nothing (or absolutely everything depending how you look at it).   I love the end of that verse “without finding fault” – that says to me that even when I feel like I am not doing a good job, or I realize that I am tearing down and not building up,  - He still wants to give me wisdom when I ask offering transformation and restoration in every area of my life.
So, the answer is ‘yes’.  We do have access to our own “personal balance and time-management consultant” and we can live wisely if we yield our dreams, hopes, desires and plans to the one who is all wisdom and has the best plan and purpose for our lives, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  Then we can be that wise woman that builds her house.

Maureen’s passion is that every person would come to the full understanding of how special, unique and loved they are. "Do You Know What You Need?"- Guest blogger: Lorie Hartshorn

Sharing God's Wisdom for the journey!  We'd like to introduce you to Lorie Hartshorn, one of WJOF's recommended speakers!  Love what she writes this week of being truly honest with ourselves digging deep for what we really need! -Jodi Kozan Founder/ Pres. Women's Journey of Faith

Lorie writes:
I came down with a summer cold this week – ugh!  No one likes to have a cold but to get one in the summer is simply unfair!  The week prior to getting my cold I knew that I should have been taking my regular vitamins D and C…the cold fighters!  But, I had stopped taking them because I didn’t realize that I needed them!  I had lulled myself into believing that I was getting enough sunshine and eating fresh fruits and veggies, so why bother with the extra dose of vitamins….I mean, I felt fine and was unaware of what I really needed and what was coming.

We can lull ourselves into thinking that we are not in need of anything including restoration.  We can dismiss signs of weakness or vulnerability and carry on in our lives not asking for true healing and health in our relationship with God and with others.
I was struck by the truth that Restoration is only possible when we acknowledge our need of it when I was reading Psalm 130 recently. It tells us that restoration is available to us.  See v.7 with Him is full redemption (or restoration)”

But we must first recognize our need of it!  We must desire it, cry out for it, ask for it!  Listen to verses 1 and 2 – Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord; Lord hear my voice.  Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.” This person is in desperation for redemption, for restoration, for help and healing from God – so they cry out!  They realize their need for restoration!

I had to ask myself.  Do I realize my desperate need for restoration from God, both in my relationship to Him as well as my relationship with others?  And to be honest, at times – NO.  I allow myself to get lulled into thinking that I can carry on in my own strength, that I am healthy and that I don’t need God’s ‘vitamin’s/work’ in my life to continually give me what I really need. Verse 3 lets us in on the secret to realizing our need of restoration If you, Lord, kept a record of sins.  Lord, who could stand?”

Restoration will only come when we recognize the reality and power of sin in our lives.  Feminism says:  Men are the problem!  The Gospel says:  Sin is the problem
Women will find their true identity when they acknowledge the power of sin in their own lives and the need for forgiveness which brings restoration. Verse 4 gives us the answer!  But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.”
When we cry out to God – recognizing our desperate need of Him – He gives us forgiveness, enabling us to serve him (freely!). The passage goes onto to say, I wait for the Lord, more than the watchman wait for the morning”… there is great anticipation in that kind of waiting…knowing that the morning is coming…waiting with expectancy!  And then we are told in v. 7 Israel (put your name in there) _____ put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption!"

There it is!  FULL RESTORATION when we realize we need it and we cry out for it for we have a God that forgives and is full of unfailing love toward us!

Want Restoration in your life?  Take your vitamins! - by keeping short accounts of your sins before a forgiving God.  Cry out for mercy.  Wait on God who is full of mercy and unfailing love – for ‘with Him is FULL REDEMPTION’

-Lorie Hartshorn loves to encourage and equip others with the truth of God’s Word. Her authenticity, humour and deep love for people comes through. She is not simply a communicator – but a connector! She loves to share what God is teaching her on her own journey of faith and to provide insight and encouragement to others to live out the life that God has called them to. She released her first DVD study book "Finding Freedom"  this past year which is proving to be a fantastic Bible study tool and guide for men, women and children alike to seek out God's wisdom and Light for the Journey! You can connect more with Lorie at upcoming WJOF events, through her website or other social media sites!

TW101 Week 5 "Battle of the Sexes"

http://www.photomadly.com/wedding-photographer-brighton-styled-shoot-marriage-as-a-sparring-match/#sthash.YTBAkave.dpbs

"It may seem like the battle of the sexes has escalated over the past few decades, but conflict between men and women goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden. After completing week five in True Woman 101, watch this twenty-minute conversation between authors Nancy Leigh DeMoss, Mary Kassian, and their friends as they delve into the battle of the sexes in our homes and lives and point us to the One who can reconcile those relationships." TW101

Key Verses: Genesis 3:11-13, Genesis 3:14-15, Psalm 130:7-8, Genesis 3:16-17, Revelation 21:4,  Genesis 3:17-19, Romans 3:10-18, Isaiah 45:10-12, Genesis 3:20-23,

A note from Jodi: "This chapter sheds so much light on why we are facing the dysfunction between men and women throughout the nations. Sure there have been healthy strides in some arenas, but we are far from what Jesus died on the cross for. He came to give us life and to the full. Unless men and women lay down their pride and come together as one with Christ and each other, we are going to continue to feel sins sting and painful aftermath of the consequences. When we looked at chapters 1-4 on the original intent of gender and why God created men MEN and why He created women WOMEN and how sin destroys our call to be "one", the battle of the sexes is inevitable. Looking at Genesis 1:27 again and knowing we were BOTH created to bear God's glory, character and image is a call worth answering. Where there was complete unity, beautiful harmony and mutuality, Adam and Eve had dominion over the earth. When sin entered the garden and into their hearts, dominion turned into domination and manipulation. Whether this concept is new to you or not, I encourage you to watch the videos, look up the key verses highlighted in this study and search out truth for yourself on this transformational teaching.  To get more out of this, we suggest going through this 8 week study by purchasing Mary Kassian and Nancy Leigh DeMoss's workbook (and discussing with a group, pastor or prayer partner) is key.  WJOF is all about "The Restoration of Women", and studies like this help us wrestle with concepts, ache for healing and pray for revival in our midst. This year at our 14th annual conference, Mary Kassian is our keynote speaker (Author of "Girls Gone Wise") will be joining us of at our Wisdom conference!  Our theme is from Ephesians 5:15 "Be very careful then how you live, not as unwise but as wise." We are on a journey towards wisdom in all areas of restoration, including our call to be the women he created us to be! Will you stand with us?"

Highlights from this week's study:
  • United We Fall: The entire human race fell through Adam's sin, but in Christ, the "Last Adam," there is plentiful redemption
  • Gender Bender: Sin affects us sex-specifically, It messes up manhood, womanhood, and male-female relationships.
  • Right Where it Hurts: Sin causes pain. It damages woman's inherent softness and also damages man's inherent strength.
  • A Tragic Her-Story: Women suffer pain at the hands of men, but men aren't the real enemy- sin is.
  • Women's Lib: The women's movement fought for change, but failed to take God's design or His solution into account.
Visit the TW101 website for other resources like videos related to this week's study "Sin Causes the
Pain", "Submission and the Gospel", and "The Culture's View on Men"

Our Vision: The Restoration of Women!

Reflecting on our vision statement as we embark on a new ministry year, a key scriptural verse that comes to mind is from the story of Zacchaeus encountering Jesus found in Luke 19:10 . By reading this verse in 3 different translations, we can consider what being "lost" truly means. As a ministry to women, these convictions affects how we seek to connect with women throughout the year:

“ For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” (NLV)
Women are "lost" without a relationship with Jesus. WJOF seeks to pursue our vision by sharing and hearing testimonies of restoration. As believers, we have a responsibility to share the good news that Jesus Christ is Savior of the world!

“For the Son of Man came to find and restore the lost." (Message)
Women are "lost" without truth to guide their path.  Jesus Christ calls all women to a deeper relationship with him as Lord.  Christian women continue to face distractions, lies and temptations to lure us off the path of holiness. WJOF seeks to pursue the restoration vision through life changing discipleship opportunities!

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Amplified)
Women are "lost" in the shuffle if not positioned in God’s kingdom purposes. They need alignment as both men and women are called to reflect God's image and character. (Genesis 1:27). WJOF seeks to pursue our vision through encouragement and affirming the call upon each and every life we touch. We've heard many stories from women who've attended our events who have experienced just that!

It is obvious that Jesus came to restore all that was lost in the fall of mankind. Would you join us in prayer as we seek to proclaim this message in all we set out to do this year?

Restoring His Kingdom as Jesus teaches us to pray "on earth as it is in heaven."

Restoring Dignity
Restoring Purpose
Restoring Joy
Restoring Peace
