Alive In Purity

This past week we had the first snowfall of 2012. Now, some welcome the white blanket with open arms while others dread this possible sign of a potentially long winter season.  However, we can be reminded to look at the biblical symbolism of snow - cleanliness and purity.

Here are a few scriptures that seem to exemplify this;

Job 9:30 If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean
Psalm 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Lamentations 4:7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire.

Most people love the look of snow. However, when something unclean such as dirt comes into contact with snow, it loses its’ beauty. In the same way, God has created us to be pure and beautiful! However, when we allow unclean things to enter our hearts, we lose some of our inner beauty. As believers, we must learn to love the things God loves and hate the things He hates.

Proverbs 6:16-19   There are six things the Lord hates—
no, seven things he detests:
Haughty (proud) eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil,
 feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family.

As we spend time with the Holy Spirit, God will show us if any seeds of the above have taken root in our hearts. As He exposes these things, we must be willing to repent, change our hearts, and cry out to the Lord to make us ‘white as snow’! As winter sets in, let’s examine our hearts and allow the Holy Spirit to uproot the ‘unclean’. Then, we will be Alive in Purity – something the Lord loves!
